Situated in the heart of Clerkenwell, The Well is a gastropub with a difference. Chef Oliver Badham serves traditional British pub food with a twist, whilst underneath the ground floor restaurant there lies a trendy and buzzing cocktail lounge. Upstairs, the rustic décor of wooden pub furniture and exposed brick walls makes for a cosy and homely ambience. Offering the best in British seasonal food, the menu comprises such delights as smoked haddock and salmon fishcake with spinach and a thyme sauce, and Londoner pork sausages with garlic mash and marjoram jus. After dinner, head downstairs to the chic cocktail bar, complete with aquarium and leather sofas, for a Polish Martini or a Cosmopolitan.

Went for lunch at The Well on a Saturday. The place was not too busy, but the seafood was fresh and the food delicious. Simple things like the warm fresh bread with oil and vinegar and freshly made juices make this place fantastic all within a relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Food was quite good especially the starters and specials - Mussels and Partridge Pie. Service was ok but a little slow. I think that was because it was busy on a Monday with only 2 staff on floor and one was working the bar as the waiter was attentive when not rushing around.

Went for Sunday lunch, roast was delicious, vegetables nie and crunchy, and the meat tender ( I asked for the rarest bit they had and they found me a lovely bloody bit) Only downside was lack of atmosphere, which is possibly due to the location of the restuarant rather than any fault of it.

I have always wanted to go to The Well, the tables are always full and the atmosphere inside is lively. The meal did not disappoint, the menu gave a few good choices to select from, the food was cooked to a very high standard and the service was also good. I will eat there again.
